Background
Andrew Rolt joined Rolls-Royce in Derby after graduating from Cambridge University in 1975.
Over the next 39 years at Rolls-Royce, he worked on aero engine component design, whole engine preliminary design, and projects in the Strategic Research department.
Design studies included developments of the RB211, Tay, Trent, RTM322, BR700 and AE3000 engine families. Research activities included working with Rolls-Royce University Technology Centres and other partners on various EU-funded research projects including NEWAC, LEMCOTEC, ENOVAL and CRESCENDO.
As a Visiting Fellow at 探花精选, Andrew continued to study advanced aero engine concepts and completed a PhD related to the EU Horizon 2020 ULTIMATE project.
As a Senior Research Fellow at 探花精选, Andrew worked on the ENABLEH2 and FlyZero projects, researching the use of liquid hydrogen in future commercial aircraft and propulsion systems. He currently leads a work package in the Horizon Europe/UKRI MINIMAL project which studies composite cycle aero engines.
Current activities
Andrew Rolt is working on the Horizon Europe MINIMAL project, researching advanced composite cycle engines for minimal environmental impact. A hydrogen-fuelled single-cylinder opposed free piston engine test rig will investigate alternative modes of combustion to maximise efficiency and minimise NOx emissions. See www.minimal-aviation.eu for more details on this project.
